This is a short documentary I made from a field trip with my classmates about the voices of young Cambodians who have been left with a deep sense of sorrow from the horrific “Khmer Rouge” war.

Cambodia has been rebuilding from the massive genocide that killed approximately 1/4 of the entire population between 1975 - 1979.

During this regime, people were forced to leave their homes and families to work as slaves and soldiers in atrocious conditions.

After only several years, many Cambodians lost their family, friends, property, dignity and even identity.

We are the next generation in Cambodia and we have a strong sense that our country and our people will be united for a better future.

The message I want to share with other refugees around the world today is that even when life seems like there is no future and everything is dark, there is always hope.nnNote; In my documentary, “S21” refers to a high school located in Phnom Penh that was turned into a torture prison in 1978.
